Soil Mechanics

Research in soil mechanics focus on soil characterisation and investigates fundamental issues, such as for example the influence of the pore fluid or the properties of intact highly overconsolidated clays, using the equipment available at the geo-laboratory. Furthermore, interpretation of field testing and monitoring is used to develop regional geotechnical models. Special emphasis is placed in advanced interpretation of test results and development of laboratory and field equipment, developing prototypes and testing techniques in house and/or in collaboration with the industry. Additional areas of interest are thermal properties of soils and unsaturated soil mechanics.
